Seaman 1st Class RICHARD PARMER,

Seaman 1st Class RICHARD PARMER, US Navy. Brother of Technician 5th grade JACOB C. PARMER. Son of Mr. and Mrs. George Browning Parmer of, Route l, Haughton. He was born February 18, 1927, and attended Haughton High School. He worked as a mechanic prior to entering the United States Naval Reserve on April 26, 1944, in Shreveport Louisiana at the age of 17. From the United States Naval Training Center at San Diego, California, he embarked August 31, 1944, for Pearl Harbor, Territory of Hawaii, aboard the MS Island Mail from San Diego to Pearl Harbor. He served with Navy 128, Isiea Heights, Pearl Harbor, and was assigned to the USS General W. F. Haves September 19, 1944, going to Makin Island. He was next assigned to duty on board the USS Fremont APA 44 serving in the South and West Pacific to October 10, 1945. He served with the USS Adonis ARL 4 in the China Burma India Theater (CBI) to May 12, 1946. He was in combat in the initial invasion of Leyte in the Philippines and Luzon in the Philippines, then of Iwo Jima February 19, 1945, with the USS Fremont APA 44. He has the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific (PTO) Ribbon with three stars, Philippine Liberations Ribbon with two stars, and Victory Ribbon. He was honorably discharged January 27, 1946, at Shanghai, China, and re-enlisted for a period of two years.
